A man who contaminated sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
The man engaged in a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities a second time.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
